Getty grants open to photojournalists arround the Globe

Photojournalists looking to pursue projects of personal and journalistic significance can apply for a grant.
The Grants for Editorial Photography, sponsored by Getty Images, support compelling social, political and cultural stories. A total of five grants of US$10,000 will be provided.
Both professional and student photojournalists are encouraged to apply. There is also an opportunity for young photographers to receive mentoring and support through the emerging talent award. Applicants must be under the age of 25 or currently enrolled in a full-time photojournalism program.
Applications will be accepted beginning April 1, and will require a 500-word summary of the project proposal, a short bio, and 20-25 images. Specific uploading instructions will be made available when the application portal is opened on April 1.
The deadline is May 1.

Photojournalism program in Spain offers scholarship

Photographers from around the world can apply for a scholarship to study photojournalism at the graduate level at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona) (UAB).
Fira de Barcelona and the Dirección de la Diplomatura de Postgrado en Fotoperiodismo dpF‐UAB are offering the Sonimagfoto Scholarship, which is open to graduates of any nationality who have acquired photographic skills.
The scholarship will cover the tuition of one student to participate in the Postgraduate Diploma in Photojournalism DPF-UAB, which will be taught in Spanish and take place October 2013 - June 2014 on the campus of the UAB.
Interested participants should submit a photo essay of 20 images that follow a particular theme. They must also attach a resume that includes their personal and contact information, as well as academic training and professional experience.
The deadline is April 12.

Contest on industrial sector reporting open Brazil

Journalists who cover business and the economy in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul can compete for a prize.
The Federation of Industries of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul is accepting entries for its Prêmio MS Industrial de Jornalismo.
The prize will award outstanding coverage of the industrial sector in Mato Grosso do Sul. Works must highlight the industry as a new force in the economy of the state.
The categories are print, radio, television and photo, with subcategories for media in the capital and media in the rest of the state. A total of BR$65,000 (about US$30,000) will be distributed among the winners.
Articles must have been published or broadcast between September 3, 2012 and March 29, 2013. The deadline to enter is April 15.

Contest for young photographers in Russia

Russian professional and amateur photographers ages 18 to 35 can participate in this contest.
The Russian Union of Art Photographers, in collaboration with The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, launches its annual photo contest, Young Russian Photographers 2013.
Applicants may submit photo projects, reports or stories (three to six photos), united by a general theme.
Participation for members and alternate members of The Russian Union of Art Photographers is free. The entry fee for other participants is RUB400 (about US$13) for one project, RUB700 (about US$23) for two projects and RUB900 (about US$30) for three projects.
Ten winners will be awarded scholarships for young authors in the field of culture and art in the amount of RUB36,000 (about US$1,200) each.
The deadline is April 15.

Knight Center symposium on online journalism

Journalists, media executives and scholars from around the world can attend this symposium.
The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas and the UNESCO Chair in Communication invite journalists to attend the 14th International Symposium on Online Journalism, which will be held at the University of Texas at Austin April 19 - 20.
The program will focus on strategies media companies should adopt to face the advanced stage of the digital revolution, the impact of social media on journalism, the use of responsive design by news sites, the challenges and opportunities created by the widespread use of mobile devices and the importance of data visualization in online journalism.
Registration costs US$80, but students and faculty members pay a discounted rate of US$30. This includes access to all ISOJ sessions, the print program of the event, and breakfast, lunch and snacks on both days.

Photo contest seeks entries Worldwide

Professional, amateur and student photographers worldwide can enter a contest with a US$10,000 grand prize.
The 11th edition of the International Photography Awards (IPA) is accepting entries in 10 professional categories - advertising, architecture, deeper perspective, editorial, photography book, fine art, moving images, nature, people and special (for submissions that include night photography and digitally enhanced work).
The winner of each category will compete for International Photographer of the Year and the grand prize. Student and amateur winners in non-professional categories will compete for the title of the Discovery of the Year, a Lucie Statue and a US$5,000 cash prize.
IPA will invite an established curator to select 45 images from both the professional and non-professional pools of first, second and third place winners to be exhibited in an exclusive show in Los Angeles, during the week leading up to the 10th Annual Lucie Awards event.
Entry fees range from US$10 to US$60 with a discount for entries submitted by April 30. The regular deadline is May 31.

Scripps Howard Semester in Washington

Undergraduate journalism or communications students worldwide who are fluent in English can apply for an internship in Washington.
The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will select two international students for the fall 2013 Scripps Howard Foundation Semester in Washington Internship Program, designed to give students abroad an opportunity to cover events in the U.S. capital, as well as to report and write feature stories for the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire.
Interns will work at the Scripps Howard News Service September - December. Stories written by Scripps Howard interns may be published in newspapers across the United States.
ICFJ will pay for round-trip economy airfare to and from the United States, housing, a per day meal/living/transportation allowance, and health insurance for the duration of the program.
