Journalists worldwide who are interested in reporting on religion can register for this online course.
News University, the Poynter Institute e-learning project, is offering the course "Religion, Culture and Society: Getting Beyond the Cliches." It is a self-directed course, and can be started and completed at any time.
In this course, participants will see how religion touches stories about politics, ethics, science, sexuality and more. The course will explore "guiding questions" that will help dig deeper into a story, and find resources to get specific answers to questions about religions and religious movements.
Course instructors Diane Winston and Nick Street will identify challenges involved in reporting on religion and hot-button topics, and give participants guidance on finding resources that are available to help shape in-depth reporting on religion and current social issues.
The course is sponsored by the Ford Foundation and is free to attend.
